Big Data Analytics research
Big data analysis is becoming an integral part of many processes around us, to better support their understanding and decision making upon them, as well as to detect patterns that require further investigation. The main aim of this research direction within Lasaris is to identify and validate the effectiveness and limitations of existing data analysis techniques when being applied to different datasets under various setups (e.g. given by the research question being answered for the specific dataset). This research, supported by numerous benchmarks on realistic data samples, is meant to result into codified knowledge guiding the selection of the most effective technique for a specific problem setup.
The application domains that are of our primary focus, include large networks of interconnected sensors, present for instance within the concept of Internet of Things, cybersecurity assurance and (cyber)crime detection, dealing with vast amounts of heterogeneous data, as well as various bioinformatics data portals and analyses (e.g., genome DNA/RNA sequencing and analyses).
The Institute of Computer Science (the ICS) is a university institute of Masaryk University responsible for the development of information and communication technologies at the university. The ICS conducts research and development activities in the field of information technologies with a long-term focus on research in cybersecurity along with flexible e-Infrastructures.
The ICS also substantially ensures the operation, development, coordination and services concerning the deployment of information and communication technologies at Masaryk University, especially the operation and development of academic computer networks and their connection to a high-level network infrastructure, and the computation and large data storage resources.
